About this frame

A slim, square 17mm profile — understated and endlessly versatile, in a deep, confident black in a smooth, closed-grain finish. It suits monochrome photography, bold typographic prints and anything you want to feel grounded and gallery-sharp. Each frame is cut, mitred and assembled to fit your print — handmade in the UK and shipped ready to hang.

  • Clear cast-acrylic glazing — lighter and safer in transit than glass.
  • Backed in archival foamboard with sealed edges.
  • Ships with hanging hardware fitted; larger frames include wire + screws.
  • Prints on archival paper with pigment inks, 100+ years light-fast.

They want the grandchildren, not a gift

Ask most grandparents what they want for Christmas and the honest answer is a photograph of the grandchildren that is not on a phone screen. It is the one category of gift where the obvious answer is also the right one — and the one gift they are almost certain not to already own.

Which photo to use

  • A recent one. Children change fast and a photo from two years ago is a photo of a different child.
  • Faces visible and reasonably close. A beautiful landscape with three tiny figures in it does not work at this size.
  • All the grandchildren together if you can get it, individually framed as a set if you cannot.
  • Ask both parents for the original file — the version shared to a family group chat has usually been compressed.

Sizes and eyesight

Print bigger than you would for yourself. A 12" x 16" or 40cm x 50cm frame reads clearly from an armchair across a room, which an 8" x 10" on a shelf does not. If it is going on a hallway wall alongside older family photos, match the size of what is already hanging there rather than the size you would choose for your own house.

A set rather than a single

Three matching frames in the same finish — one per grandchild, or one per year — makes a wall rather than an object, and it gives you an obvious gift for next Christmas too. Order them together and they will be cut from the same batch of moulding, so the finish matches exactly.

Order in good time

Frames are cut and assembled to order. Early December is the sensible cut-off; the banner at the top of the page calculates the real last-order date for your country, holidays included.
